Burning drywall in a fire pit is a bad idea. Drywall is made mostly from a substance called gypsum, which doesn't burn easily. Instead, it would make a lot of smoke and not much fire. But that's not the biggest problem. When you heat drywall, it can give off harmful stuff like volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other toxins. Breathing these in can be bad for your health. Older drywall might even have asbestos, which is very dangerous. Additionally, when gypsum in drywall gets hot, it can create a gas called sulfur dioxide. This gas can mix with water in the air and create acid rain, which harms the environment. Don't burn drywall. Instead, get rid of it properly. You can often take it to a waste facility that takes construction debris.
